Five stars! "The Killing Gene" is a propulsive, nerve-shredding thriller that hooked me from the first page. The concept is chillingly original, and the twists are relentless. I found myself constantly guessing, only to be proven wrong in the best way possible. A truly gripping and satisfying read for any crime fiction fan. Highly recommend

A Gripping Exploration of Genetics and Morality
"The Killing Gene by Victor Hugo Basurco is a gripping speculative novel that explores the ethical and emotional consequences of genetic engineering. Set in a near future where parents can predict or influence their children’s traits, the story raises urgent questions about identity, morality, and the limits of science. Basurco presents a thought-provoking narrative that blends scientific possibility with human vulnerability, balancing suspense with philosophical depth. While the premise is familiar, the book’s emotional stakes and timely subject matter make it engaging. It’s a concise, accessible read for those interested in genetics, ethics, and the future of humanity"

The Killing Gene by Victor Hugo Basurco
"In this world of uncertainty, what if you could test your unborn child for a “violence gene” and choose whether to keep them? The Killing Gene tackles this haunting question in a fast-paced, ethically charged thriller. Blending forensic suspense with cutting-edge genetics, Basurco crafts a near-future world that feels terrifyingly possible. With complex characters, moral ambiguity, and a serial killer mystery that ties it all together, this novel doesn’t just entertain, it provokes.
Smart, intense, and unsettling in the best way."

This Book Got Under My Skin (In the Best Way)
"It takes a lot for me to leave a review, especially for thrillers, because most of them don't stick with me, but The Killing Gene really did. This book isn't just another thriller. It is dark, emotional, and felt very real. The author writes in a way that makes you feel like you are inside the characters' heads, and sometimes that is uncomfortable, but that is what makes it so powerful.
I found myself pausing a few times just to take it in, not because it was slow, but because it really made me think. The story digs into what drives people to do terrible things and whether that darkness comes from who we are or the world around us. It is heavy at times, but completely worth it.
The writing feels raw and honest, and the main character's struggle really stayed with me. This is one of those books that sticks with you long after you finish it. If you like thrillers that make you think and feel at the same time, this one is definitely worth reading."
